Frequently asked.
New to Jiu-Jitsu or just checking us out? Here's what most people want to know. Can't find it? Ask us below — we'll text you back.
Getting Started
Do I need any experience to start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Not at all — almost everyone walks in with zero experience. Our Fundamentals classes teach you step by step, and you only ever train at a pace you're comfortable with. Just book a free trial and show up; we'll take care of the rest.
What should I wear and bring to my first class?
Wear athletic clothing with no zippers, buttons or pockets — shorts or leggings with a t-shirt or rash guard. If you already own a gi (kimono), bring it; if not, we'll sort you out. Bring water and a pair of flip-flops for walking off the mat. We train barefoot.
How do I book a free trial class?
Head to our Free Trial page to claim your class, or call us at (512) 270-0525. We'll match you with a beginner-friendly time and walk you through everything when you arrive.
Where is Soul Fighters Leander located?
We're at 10960 East Crystal Falls Parkway, Building 2, Ste. 200, Leander, TX 78641. We welcome members from Leander, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Liberty Hill, Round Rock and North Austin.
Classes & Schedule
What's the difference between Gi and No-Gi classes?
Gi training uses the traditional kimono — jacket, pants and belt — so you can grip the fabric for control. No-Gi is trained in a rash guard and shorts with no fabric grips, making it faster and more slippery. We run both; try each and see what you enjoy.
How many times a week should I train as a beginner?
Two to three classes a week is a great starting point — enough to build skill and consistency without burning out. With morning, noon and evening classes most days, it's easy to fit training around work and family.
What is open mat?
Open mat is unstructured training time to drill techniques and roll (spar) at your own pace, with coaches on hand to help. It's where class material really clicks. We hold open mat on the weekend — check the schedule for current times.
Pricing & Membership
How much does membership cost?
Pricing depends on the program and how often you train, and we keep it simple. The best way to get exact numbers is your free trial visit or a quick call to (512) 270-0525 — we'll match a plan to your goals with no pressure.
Do you have options for families?
Yes — Soul Fighters Leander is a family-first gym, and plenty of our members train as parent-and-kid or as a whole family. Ask us about family options when you come in for your trial.
Kids
What age can my child start?
Kids can start as young as 4 in our Tiny Kids class (ages 4–6), then move up through Kids (7–12) and Teens (13–15). Classes are grouped by age so the training stays fun, safe and appropriate at every stage.
Will Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu help my child with confidence and bullying?
It's one of the top reasons parents enroll. BJJ gives kids genuine self-defense skills along with discipline, focus and quiet confidence, and our program reinforces respect and anti-bullying values in every class.
Can my kids and I train at the same gym?
Absolutely — we love training families. Kids and adults have their own class times, so each of you can train at the right level and on a schedule that works for your day.
General
Who teaches the classes?
Classes are led by Professor Bruno Guimaraes — a 4th-degree black belt under Grand Master Francisco Mansor — who has run Soul Fighters Leander since 2009, alongside an experienced and friendly coaching team.
Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu safe?
BJJ is one of the safest martial arts because it's built on control and leverage rather than striking. Beginners drill slowly, all sparring is supervised, and the rule is simple: tap early, tap often. There's no ego on our mats.
What makes Soul Fighters different?
We're a Soul Fighters affiliate under the Mansor family's Gracie lineage — the same world-class curriculum that produces champions — taught in a welcoming, family-first room where beginners and competitors train side by side.
